Giant Gnome Productions

A Web Audio Production Company

Giant Gnome Productions is a new audio drama group on the block. Our niche is great audio drama, no matter what the story type. We love all genres, from Westerns to Horror, and everything in between. We are a group of audio nuts who love to create great shows in the audio tradition. We also have a number of non-fiction podcasts which we believe in and promote. Our audio drama is available from our feeds, as well as on iTunes. Both links are available on the original show pages. You can download each episode individually as well. We have a lot of fun here, and we are always looking for new people interested in helping us out on our productions, or just schmoozing with us on our various projects.

Emily: Mid 20s, English Accented Female.  Not Cockney, but not overly Aristocratic.  Middle Class.

LONG TERM ROLE.  THE DOCTOR’S COMPANION.

EMILY Line 1: I don’t know how to thank-you Doctor. To see…even just for a brief moment. To know what other people see. It was…I…(very sincerely) Thank-you Doctor.
EMILY Line 2: No! I may not have known you all that long Doctor, but what you did for me
back there. Letting me see…that’s not the act of…of an animal. I’ve heard what this man
has done, no…you’re not capable of that kind of cruelty.
EMILY Line 3: Sorry Doctor. But…helpless blind girl? Really? I’ll show him how helpless this poor blind girl is.
EMILY Line 4: This is all still so new to me Doctor, just a few days ago I was in my apartment
in London, blind. Now I have my sight and am zooming around space and time in a big
blue box…You have to admit, it’s not your average week.

Obadiah: Mid 40s, English Accented Male. Any Voicing. This Character Does Require special voicing for certain parts, since he is not Human.  In separate parts of the episode he does switch between human and his alien voicing.  Please provide alternate voicings of the each lines in a lower, guttural, voicing.  Alternate voicings do not need to adhere to an English Accent.

OBADIAH Line 1: Where is the Timelord? Have you let him escape?

OBADIAH Line 2: We must regroup, the Timelord is shaking down the house. He’ll rebury the hub, he’ll kill the drones. Do you want to start again? Another thousand years on this planet?

OBADIAH Line 3: Ah, yes, your sonic device. Worked quite well on my brother, did it not? I’m afraid Timelord, that I am not my brother. I have taken precautions. Sonic damper field inside the hub, that’s why I lured you in here. Go on, try it.

Zebadiah: Late 30s, English Accented Male.

ZEBADIAH Line 1: We prefer the term wards Doctor. But yes, they’re all similarly…designed. Makes things quite a bit easier for me and my brother. Less explaining.

ZEBADIAH Line 2: It is a squalid backwater prison hell. And I and my brother have been here for nearly a thousand years. No reprieve, no escape.

ZEBADIAH Line 3: Aghhrrrrr! Stop, stop the noise.

McCormack (aka Police Man #1): Mid 40s, English Accented Male.  Any Voicing.

POLICE MAN #1: No ma’am. Look I don’t want to frighten you, but
the…the…perhaps it would be better if you just went back in were you can
from and don’t worry yourself none.

MCCORMACK Line 2: So what your saying is that someone you don’t know is trying to stop you from doing something, but you don’t know what, for reasons you can not understand?

MCCORMACK Line 3: I hear by place you under arrest for the murders of Polly Nichols and Annie Chapman in the name of the Queen!

Police Man #2: Any Voicing.  Male or Female.

POLICE MAN #2 Line 1: Yes, sir. It was him alright. Just walked right up to the
woman he did. Right there in the middle of the street.

POLICE MAN #2 Line 2: Well, I mean chief! We’re just two men. You know the stuff
they say about him? They say he’s stronger than ten men, that he can disappear
into thin air, that he can kill you before you even know he’s there.

Woman #1:  Late 40s, Early 50s, English Accented Female.

WOMAN #1 Line 1: Here, let me get a closer look at you. I know you from somewhere.

WOMAN #1 Line 2: (in a cracked whisper) Oh my god! It…It’s you! (screams)  Help! Help! Murder!

Man #1: Any Voicing, except childlike.

MAN Line 1: He’s heading towards that alley, somebody stop him!

ALRIGHT!  That’s it!  Remember to turn in your audition lines to doctorwho[at]giantgnome.com by APRIL 12th, 2009!  Have fun!

Happy Recording!
Characters:

Grandpa Exler

Human (well, Sigma Iotian) male. Fifties or Sixties. Accent reminiscent of 1920s-’30’s Chicago. Warm, comfortable voice, as everyone would want to remember their grandfather. A bit rough around the edges, which qualifies as an ideal for Sigma Iotians.

Line 1: It’s not so bad. I meet up with Murray down at the market to swap a few lies, tell a few jokes, and buy some fresh vegetables. Every once in a while I even stop in at Jojo’s for a quick one with the boys. (PAUSE) But you didn’t come here to keep an old man company. What’s on your mind…?

Line 2: Just you, but because of your Doctor Winston’s machinations, I’ve learned to anticipate your …(WITH SARCASM) friend…(BACK TO NORMAL) showing up when you get in one of your moods. You know that the two of you are (PAUSE) about the only company I get these days (LONELY SIGH)… It’s been like that since your grandma passed…

Yeoman Tovar-Smith

Any gender or character race. Young. Insecure, though this may be a recent personality trait. Always walking on eggshells because he/she is frequently the target of Captain Buchanan’s ire and angry outbursts. A competent, though inexperienced officer whose sense of self-worth is taking a beating in his/her current posting.

Line 1: I’m sorry to interrupt, Captain. We’ve just received notice that Task Force 51 under the command of Admiral Thomas is on final approach to the station and will be docking in twenty minutes. I thought you’d want to know immediately.

Line 2: (CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO FORCES GREATER THAN HE/SHE)
Sometimes … sir … when he has a lot on his mind … he shortens my name from Tovar-Smith to just Smith. I don’t mind at all, sir. He’s … got a lot on his mind.

Admiral Thomas

Human Male. Late forties to early sixties. An important officer from an important, and self-important, Starfleet family. He values family and duty. Unfortunately, in that order. Not that he would ever betray the Federation, but he isn’t above using his influence in Starfleet to forward his family’s interests. He likes to project an airy, almost jovial, façade, but he doesn’t like to be crossed or questioned, and his mood can change quickly if he’s not getting his way.

Line 1: Excellent, excellent. I believe I can smell the Gagh from here. You must have peeked at my dossier. I believe we can skip the receiving line, Captain. I’ll just meet your staff informally at this reception you’ve put together. Lead the way.

Line 2: My boy, the middle of a party might not be the best place to talk secrets, but if you want privacy, there is nowhere better.

Line 3: (SERIOUS) Commander, you might want to think about whether you want to have an Admiral looking over your shoulder to help where he can, or bury you where no-one is going to look!
