“In the darkest reaches of the United Federation of Planets, an isolated station stands sentinel over a neglected frontier. Commissioned long ago with high hopes, its promise is now all but forgotten; a lonely outpost serving as the gateway to the vast expanse beyond, where discovery…and adventure…await..”

yeah, you are right. I just hate him more and more with each episode lol. The fact that he causes such a reaction is a credit to the writers, this is by far the best startrek audio I have come across.

  • Tinykxb

wish I could download the latest epsoide from iTunes as I get to about 54 Mbs then it stops & I have to start all over again from the berginning :(

  • Commander Cross

Give the poor guy a break! I think he’s beginning to mellow out. The last two episodes, he could almost pass as human. A few more episodes, and he might actually be likeable. I must admit, in ‘Death Sentance’ he and Admiral Thomas must have been out of their collective minds ordering Lt Denali to pose as an M.D. It would’ve been a simple matter for Admiral Thomas to intercede and select a female doctor

Goodness! If Chirrock and I had known that there was going to be such a party at DS3, we wouldn’t have left so soon! Then again, if Klingons are on the scene, maybe it was wise for us to disappear.
    Lotran
On a different note, I’m a dilettante in thlIngan Hol and Emkaien speaks it very well. Props to Chris!

  • jimmy

ok, my sorting was not correct and i found it in the middle of the rest of the others…lol
disregard this one and go with the one that has the link.

    :)

Thanks for the links! Anything helps! Normally, we post on all the audio drama sites and our past episodes can be heard on STO Radio and Radio Galactica! And…we encourage our fans to join us on Facebook and Twitter! Still, thank you!!! The more listeners the better!

Ben — Thanks! That’s good to know that you speak Klingon as well! And didn’t Lotran and Chirrok get the invite to the part on DS3? Must’ve gotten lost in the mail. ;)

Here’s an update on Monty — You’ll be in for a real treat — we have a 3-part episode that will give you a bit of insight into our resident curmudgeon…it’s gonna be great…and the actors have been salivating over this script. Stay tuned for Star Trek: Outpost – Episode 21 – Shades of the Past – Coming January 2011!

  • Anonymous

Yeah…well, that was a stretch, we realize — but it was a plot device. And even the great writer’s bombed once in a while. We endeavor to be true to the original Star Trek philosophy, to the characters, to the story, and to the mechanics with which we must deal — in that order. Sometimes, we do have to sacrifice something – and this time, as you noted, it wasn’t as successful as we had hoped. Your comments have been taken to heart and a new attention to detail has been implemented! Thanks for listening.

I sort of figured out where the January episode was headed about halfway though. Very clever! Hopefully this storyline will bring about some changes on DS3. Always good to hear my son (crewman) contribute to my favorite podcast. Keep up the good work.

  • Arkayanon

Just when I was starting to think Captain Buchanan was simply going to be a caricature, you go and make him interesting and give a good reason for him being the way he is. I have been thoroughly enjoying this series and it keeps delivering. Thank you.

  • Matt

Love the series. I’ve recently gotten addicted to star trek fan fiction audio dramas and you guys here at giant gnome are one of the best out there. You guys have Interesting plots, dynamic characters, and consistantly release new episode monthly when other audio dramas are inconsistant to say the least. Since there are no new star trek series on tv, you and other audio drama production teams are the only way us trekies can get our STrek fix! Keep em coming!

  • http://www.scifisoundoff.com Tony

Not to fear! Star Trek: Outpost is only taking a month off! Just enough time for us to catch our breath and gear up for a great third season! Episode 23 – Shades of the Future will premiere on April 5, 2011… stay tuned!

Not too much longer….April 5, 2011…The beginning of Season 3 with Episode 23 — Shades of the Future.

Among the many Startrek pod casts I listen to I actually love Star trek Outpost chief knox rules role on 23

  • Glehno

    Thank you Nick.

  • ThatCubanLookingGuy

So, I’d love to give this new (to me) podcast a listen, but I can’t find a place to d/L anything earlier than episode 6 either on here or on iTunes, a little help?

  • Chris

Is it just me? or does episode 23 Shades of the future not play?

  • http://www.scifisoundoff.com Tony

We are currently experiencing some issues with our servers. They were overwhelmed on the 5th and crashed…and we are working to resolve the problem!

  • Ben

If there ever was a dictionary definition of a cliffhanger, I think the end of episode 23 would fit that definition rather nicely.

  • http://profiles.google.com/royalla Chris Hore

I want to listen to this series but the first 6 episodes are missing on iTunes, any chance they can be added?

  • http://www.IAmNickArmstrong.com Nick Armstrong

We’re working on a few issues along these lines at the moment. In the meantime, here’s a link to Episode #1, you can download it straight from there to import into iTunes: http://www.giantgnome.com/2009/04/star-trek-outpost-episode-1/

  • Commander Cross

I’ve been meaning to ask, what class of Starship is the Remmington? I know it’s not an Oberth. Is it a New Orleans class, perhaps? Or perhaps a Cheyenne or Renaissance II? My curiousity is gnawing.

  • Stephensmat

Ahhh, I hate that I don’t review more than I do. Every episode leaves me with things to talk about, but I never seem to get around to it.

    Well, let’s see…

You find out who your friends are when you’re unconscious. If it wasn’t for the Doc, I reckon the crew would agree to keep the Capitan comatose until Tork had the place running properly. Not even the Admiral would argue it too much, and isn’t THAT saying something?

After the Trilogy of episodes, I naturally assumed that the hologram of
Christmas Future was showing him a slightly more distant future, now I’m
not so sure. We can see everything spelling itself out according to the
    dream sequence.

It would be quite in character of this series for such a bittersweet plot, with Exler and Smith leaving in heartbreak, and Tork putting the station together right.

But that wouldn’t fit exactly with the mirror to ‘A Christmas Carol’ that the series went through. Thing is, the point of the old story is that Scrooge took a long hard look and changed his life. I saw little to no evidence that Buchanan had changed, per se; except for Smith’s sister. It was a good job with the ‘Ghost of Past’ storyline. You didn’t quite
manage to make him sympathetic, but now he’s a far more tragic story
    than a despicable one.

While I’m still on that subject, I’ll just ask this question: What the hell is going on aboard DS3? is the place just haunted? Granted, in Sci-Fi, you tend to find a plausible reason to explain the classic Supernatural results; and Star Trek does it better than anyone; but…

Last time we saw ghosts, I figured it was the Chiefs implant, doing something with the holo-emitters making a Spectre appear. Now I’m not so sure. You could say it was all a delusion in the Captain’s diseased mind, but it’s just too accurate.

    So what’s happening?

The Doctor’s reaction to the Betazoid’s was less surprising than it could have been. Dr Winston is a natural Tranquil Fury waiting to happen, but her unusual prescience was talked about too much for us not to expect a reaction of some kind to a batch of bona-fide telepaths on board.

Based on the experience with betazoid women we got from TNG, we can’t really be surprised at the notion of them being tactless and compassionate in equal measure, and it opens up some interesting what-if’s where the dreaming Bucky is concerned.

    Yessir. Going to be interesting.

Star Trek hasn’t been good since episode 1 of Enterprise. You have no idea how incredibly wonderful it is to get such GOLD on a regular basis. Not only good writing and good performances, but plausible plots, fleshed out background, and we get a universe that isn’t all shiny and new like everything on board ships called Enterprise was. Please don’t ever stop producing these; it’s better than a lot of episodes were, and the very best of what Star Trek can be now.

AAARRRGGGHHH! I hate that you posted the wrong episode YET AGAIN! Everytime I go to listen to a new episode do you know how much i hate to hear the intro to episode 2?!? GYST!

  • http://www.IAmNickArmstrong.com Nick Armstrong

Bernard — what are you talking about?

  • Greg Littlefield

I got the correct one the first time I tried.  Not sure what problem you’re having.

  • Anonymous

What are you talking about Bernard? This is the first I’ve ever heard of this problem…

  • Iantregale

the show just get’s better and better I’ve not let found episode I did’nt like keep up the good work shows like this are the future of star trek

  • Anzakerwall

Love This Show. One of the best there is, brilliant.
    But what is a Esherite?

  • Commander Cross

I believe you are right on the mark. There is one thing. In “Shades of the Future” Knox said that sometimes you have to let go of one thing to find another. I is my belief that redemption is still possible, and there is one more chance for Monty. It’s nothing more than a guess, but I believe Monty can still be saved, and it has something to do with the message he didn’t finish listening to.

As far as Brize Nemon and Kar’rl Droonga, to quote Inspector Clouseau, ‘Sinister forces are at work’. As agreeable as most of the Betazoids introduced in the series were, there were also exceptions. Devinoli Raal for one. Personally, the Ambassador’s penchant for broadcasting her perceptions for public dissemination particularly disturbing, though even Deanna Troi waas guilty of that on occaision.

The one thing I really regret not hearing is Tork and Rachel’s brief and loud chat following episode 24.

  • http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewuser.php?uid=11 Nerys Ghemor

On “occasion”?  Troi was guilty of it a lot, although Lwaxana was even worse. ;-)

  • Noble Hays

I found this series this week. I just finished a quasi-marathon from the beginning over the past 4 days. It’s a great story that I’ll be passing along to several of my friends.

    Can’t wait for 28!
