I believe you are right on the mark. There is one thing. In “Shades of the Future” Knox said that sometimes you have to let go of one thing to find another. I is my belief that redemption is still possible, and there is one more chance for Monty. It’s nothing more than a guess, but I believe Monty can still be saved, and it has something to do with the message he didn’t finish listening to.

As far as Brize Nemon and Kar’rl Droonga, to quote Inspector Clouseau, ‘Sinister forces are at work’. As agreeable as most of the Betazoids introduced in the series were, there were also exceptions. Devinoli Raal for one. Personally, the Ambassador’s penchant for broadcasting her perceptions for public dissemination particularly disturbing, though even Deanna Troi waas guilty of that on occaision.

The one thing I really regret not hearing is Tork and Rachel’s brief and loud chat following episode 24.

Ahhh, I hate that I don’t review more than I do. Every episode leaves me with things to talk about, but I never seem to get around to it.

Well, let’s see…

You find out who your friends are when you’re unconscious. If it wasn’t for the Doc, I reckon the crew would agree to keep the Capitan comatose until Tork had the place running properly. Not even the Admiral would argue it too much, and isn’t THAT saying something?

After the Trilogy of episodes, I naturally assumed that the hologram of
Christmas Future was showing him a slightly more distant future, now I’m
not so sure. We can see everything spelling itself out according to the
dream sequence.

It would be quite in character of this series for such a bittersweet plot, with Exler and Smith leaving in heartbreak, and Tork putting the station together right.

But that wouldn’t fit exactly with the mirror to ‘A Christmas Carol’ that the series went through. Thing is, the point of the old story is that Scrooge took a long hard look and changed his life. I saw little to no evidence that Buchanan had changed, per se; except for Smith’s sister. It was a good job with the ‘Ghost of Past’ storyline. You didn’t quite
manage to make him sympathetic, but now he’s a far more tragic story
than a despicable one.

While I’m still on that subject, I’ll just ask this question: What the hell is going on aboard DS3? is the place just haunted? Granted, in Sci-Fi, you tend to find a plausible reason to explain the classic Supernatural results; and Star Trek does it better than anyone; but…

Last time we saw ghosts, I figured it was the Chiefs implant, doing something with the holo-emitters making a Spectre appear. Now I’m not so sure. You could say it was all a delusion in the Captain’s diseased mind, but it’s just too accurate.

So what’s happening?

The Doctor’s reaction to the Betazoid’s was less surprising than it could have been. Dr Winston is a natural Tranquil Fury waiting to happen, but her unusual prescience was talked about too much for us not to expect a reaction of some kind to a batch of bona-fide telepaths on board.

Based on the experience with betazoid women we got from TNG, we can’t really be surprised at the notion of them being tactless and compassionate in equal measure, and it opens up some interesting what-if’s where the dreaming Bucky is concerned.

Yessir. Going to be interesting.

Star Trek hasn’t been good since episode 1 of Enterprise. You have no idea how incredibly wonderful it is to get such GOLD on a regular basis. Not only good writing and good performances, but plausible plots, fleshed out background, and we get a universe that isn’t all shiny and new like everything on board ships called Enterprise was. Please don’t ever stop producing these; it’s better than a lot of episodes were, and the very best of what Star Trek can be now.

Love the series. I’ve recently gotten addicted to star trek fan fiction audio dramas and you guys here at giant gnome are one of the best out there. You guys have Interesting plots, dynamic characters, and consistantly release new episode monthly when other audio dramas are inconsistant to say the least. Since there are no new star trek series on tv, you and other audio drama production teams are the only way us trekies can get our STrek fix! Keep em coming!

Yeah…well, that was a stretch, we realize — but it was a plot device. And even the great writer’s bombed once in a while. We endeavor to be true to the original Star Trek philosophy, to the characters, to the story, and to the mechanics with which we must deal — in that order. Sometimes, we do have to sacrifice something – and this time, as you noted, it wasn’t as successful as we had hoped. Episode 15 was utterly, unbelievably, incredibly EPIC!!!!! While I was listening to it I felt as though I was right with Exler and Tyrellian as they fought and ran from Jenneth, who did an excellent job as a Klingon! The fight scenes I could see in my head so vivid were all the sounds. I keep checking your site, hoping for a casting call so I can join in the awesomeness of this podcast!

Wow, Episode 15 was fantastic. I agree with Eleiece concerning some of these fine voice actors. Katie Gomez does an outstanding job as Lt. Exler. I really feel for the emotional ringer she's been put through this season. I really hope things get happier for her in the future.

CC, I don't know how you do it, but I find it amazing! Your voice acting as Jenneth sounds, IMHO, to be exactly how I would expect a Klingon female to sound. Great job!!

And my hat is off to Steve Carter. You do a great job playing both sides of the line. Yeah, I know it's written that way (and hat's off to the writers, as well!), but you make me believe that this character is very skilled in this line of work. A little slimy, maybe, but sounds completely sincere to everyone he speaks with.

Without a doubt, Episode 15 ("Ambush") is FRAKKING AWESOME! The writing, musical scoring and post-production continue in their flawlessness. And the voice acting...what can I say except....WOW! While the entire cast's performances were of the excellent quality I've come to expect from each of them, Mark Zaricor, Katie Gomez, CC Peterson and Robert Pepper, individually and collectively, boosted the bar for excellence with their performances in this nail-biting, intensely and deliciously frustrating cliffhanger episode!

Special kudos to Mark and Katie for that last scene; it is MESMERIZING. I tell you in all seriousness, that from the first time I listened to this episode, and every time since, without fail, when it gets to that scene, the world ceases to exist for me for those few moments.

And, CC....what can I say?! In your most capable vocal hands, you breath a Klingon life-fire into Jenneth that is amazing! From now on, when I hear or think “Klingon”, it is your performance as Jenneth that comes first to my mind. Well done, indeed!

Just found this series last week and have listened to the whole run (so far). This has become my favorite Trek audio series to date, and I look forward to more. I think Knox's attitude is taken a little too far, but that's a fairly small complaint. One thing I really enjoy is how much misinterpretation of events/information seems to happen due to POV, something that is often overlooked, even in professional shows.

It's also nice to see the former captain of the Excelsior has found a new career as a doctor

Fantastic show, really enjoying it. I am having some difficulty download/listening to episodes 9, 10 (and maybe 11), they don't seem to want to download from itunes fully. Episode 9 cuts off just after the bar fight, episode 10 cuts out a 27.29 mins. I'm not sure about 11, it might be complete.

Ah…yes…questions, questions….

RE: Tork and the roses – Yes, purposefully designed to be painful; part of Tork's awkwardness to be sure. He's a guy. Let's face it…he's not very “intuitive” when it comes to the fairer gender. Witness Ep1 when he talks to Denali about the transfer. Growing up is ugly and painful and the thing is, we all must do it at some point. He knows the rules, but not the nuances of the game!

Re: Doc – Oh, she knows. She knows. And of course, there's more growing to be done there.

Re: The Question Mark….well, well, well… I guess we shall have to wait and see, won't we?
The final chapter has yet to be written, hasn't it? And so… what if it didn't come from Knox? What then? Was it real? Was it imaginary? I guess you'll have to stay tuned to find out, eh?

Ahh, that's better! Episode heard, much enjoyment.

I remember saying something to the effect of "We don't know what the deal was between Tork and Denali." two episodes ago. Now we've got a better idea of where Tork is coming from.

When I heard the bit about replicating roses, I actually did a facepalm. The fact that the Admiral was in the room to personally witness it was painful.

And Doc? Come on. He's a Ferengi. Of course there were stolen good involved. Of course there was something shady happening. it practically comes with the earlobes!

So now we're heading back into stormy weather. Without our science officer around to disprove more ghost stories.

The question mark for me is the 'ghost' of the previous commander. The general feeling is that Knox was able to conjure a specter with the Escher implant and a holo-emitter on the ship. But that doesn't explain the fact that it's the second time we've seen this particular ghost.

The first time there was lots of chaos and smoke and uncertainty... but what if it never came from Knox?

Not every adventure can be life-on-the-edge-dangling-by-a-thread…but that is coming. Trust me. But at the core you will always find our characters…living, breathing, and growing. We'll see about slipping in the occasional phaser fight or bar fight…speaking of which, have you checked out Episode 9?

Ok great series… Lacking in action for sure, however you guys make up for it in wit and the human side of the story. This is what DS9 should have been! (But like I said, you guys could add a little action ) Loving the bashing of Bureaucrats, it so works. The captain of the DS-3 reminds me of a DMV manager. LOL Any who, keep up the good work, look forward to the future. You guys are the natural successors of the Section 31Chronicles!

Daryl, thanks for the comments, and as one of the writers on Outpost, let me say that I share your sensibilities about “colorful metaphors.” I’ll have to go back to the episode and listen to it again. There is certainly a line between scripting language the way the characters would use it in “real life,” which might be different than the way you or I would speak, and keeping true to the flavor of the Original Series, which was, after all, created in a time when the social mores of society were much more strict than they are today. If we crossed that line in that scene, or even crowded it, I apologize. We certainly try to keep our audience in mind, and will remember the younger ears the next time such a scene is warranted.

Hey, wanted to let you know I finally finished listening to all seven episodes. Outstanding, edge-of-your-seat stuff! I can’t wait to hear more. Did have one slight criticism, though. Don’t want anyone to take this wrong, but in either episode 6 or 7, the scene where Chief Knox is in the brig and talking down Commander Torkelson, Renova Exeler blows up and is cussing up a storm. I, personally, have no issues with that. However, keeping the younger audience in mind, it seems to me that the scene could have been as effective using alternative words. That’s what I’ve always liked about Star Trek is that it can make it’s point without all the garbage that other shows are doing. I don’t think the “colorful metaphors,” as Spock calls them, are necessary. If so, you might want to consider adding some type of warning. As I said, you probably have younger audiences listening, as well, and I’m not sure you would want to tarnish the Star Trek image over a few words.

As I said, though, an outstanding effort and one worthy of the Star Trek moniker. Too bad the latest film can’t claim that distinction

I must admit, this was the first fan made Star Trek audio series that I’ve listened to. I chose this series first because of Katie Gomez. I have only listened to the first two episodes, but I am hooked. You’ve created a Star Trek series worthy of the name and the history. The writing is superb, and the acting is great. I can’t wait to listen to the other four episodes. Thanks for doing this and keep up the great work. And, when you get a chance, check out Star Trek: The Romulan Wars. This is probably the best audio fan play of star trek I’ve heard….. I finally got a chance to sit down and listen to it… got to do it whilst working/painting and it kept me going all night. Upset now that I have to wait till next month for the next episode. =( Goshen is hilarious! Starting to get annoyed with the phrase “No more no less” though. LOL.

Sorry for the lack of a direct contact method – I’ve added one (look at the main menu). As Giant Gnome’s only web gnome, there’s a lot for me to do and only so many whips that I can respond to at any one time. Thus, most of my web work is done between 1-3 AM.

We’re so happy that you enjoyed listening to Star Trek: Outpost. Tony is an amazing writer and audio engineer, and there are some amazing stories to come. His is the only Star Trek that keeps me awake at night for fear of the competition!

I’m James, the producer from over down the road at the Starship Excelsior audio drama. This was excellent. The milieu of DS3 is invigorating, the characters original, the dialogue clever, the conflict already coming to a nice, low sizzle. Love the station commander. I don’t usually say this to new shows, but very well done. I’m looking forward to more.

Shoutout to Eleiece, who only *just* persuaded me to listen to yet *another* untested audio pilot. She was right to do so. You should give her more lines. For so many reasons.
